Okay Everyone needs one...

VLTOR's is a whole new reciever with a different firing method
The originaly is an open bolt with that uses a floating firing pin that the momentum of the pin gives enough energy to crater the primer and ignite it.

Now an RPD is something I most deffinatly would love to own, they are one of my favorite firearms.
I'm not sure if it would be possible to own one here though.
If I recall, they would be non-restricted providing the barrel is long enough. Not named and not a variant.

The problem is finding a source of semi-auto, non-converted ones. Maybe some one could find a source for parts and do like the VZ58s/CZ858.

Aw crap! If you guys manage to make this happen how am I going to explain why "I NEED" this gun to the wife? "Yes honey I know the last gun was for zombies but this one is for LOTS of fast zombies!" or "But honey!! this is a new bedroom set!! See! Solid wood furniture!!"

This is better.
-It's not "listed" in the prohibited weapons orders (even though the original would fall into - an automatic firearm and a converted automatic firearm;)
-There's plenty of 7.62x39 to feed it (and relatively inexpensive)
-The price tag is around the same as an AR-15 (before accessories)

If I wasn't anxiously awaiting a LWRC 12.5" SABR this would be on my "to do" list.

stop waiting, you're never going to get one

Oh wise sage. Please, do tell what you've read in the chicken bones.

Do you believe that it won't be produced or are you just being a nay sayer because the almighty State Department won't allow it to be exported?

Perhaps you'll be correct and it won't happen, but if I had your attitude I would have dewatted all of my 12(5) firearms and given up the fight against a handgun ban, C-68, and C-10A.

Why be so defeatist? (Standing upon a mighty rock with sword held high) Fight for those things that others would take away without logic and without regard to others. If in the end we lose, then at least we will have done so knowing that we attempted make change. On the other hand if we win then there is another hill for us to climb and climb I will.(followed by thunderous roar of swords beating upon shields)

So if it's all the same to you, I will await MY SABR.:)
:canadaFlag:

btw - Beware, the Ides of March.

well you may be able to get an SABR, but you will NEVER get the 12.5 legally.

:redface:edited due to my mis-understanding of 12.5.

Can't hurt to ask for it though. The AR-10 Leonidas has the same bbl length and Reaper's awaiting one. Why would the Leonidas be okay but not the SABR? (other than the AFAIK the Leonidas isn't actually across the border yet)

Well with some ammo it is useful in mounted situations. However its a niche tool -- maybe fun at the range - but other than being loud and annoying not sure why...

That RPD looks cool and its priced alright. I'd be interested in one of those but with all this new stuff coming onto the country and rumors of new stuff coming in, it is very hard to choose what to buy or to wait. But if an affordable belt fed came in it would be my first purchase:D

After doing a little research I may have jumped the gun on the 12.5". At this length the bbl is too short to allow for a full powder burn and velocity drops dramatically. (I should have thought of that before I opened my big mouth.)

At this point I would defer in favour of the 16.1" version. I still want a 12.5" though.

And now back to the regularily programed RPD show. Everyone needs one.
