Okay........Now with Pics of Loading Bench and Gun Vault

After seeing the pics, I am clearly in the wrong business! Holy heck, major like!!!

Thanks for sharing!

Awesome shop. Maybe someday I'll win the lotto max. For now ilk try to get the wife to expand her business lol. Not many good paying jobs around here and she refuses to move away from her family.

Are you keeping the chev original or going to modify it? Altered wheelbase Gasser style would suit that car nicely. Don't know if that's your thing or not

BB.........I'll give you a hint, check out shop photos and take a good look at photo 12th down, upper center............that's the motor for it.

Oh, my... Track or ticket magnet? Tunnel ram or BLOWER! A fine specimen of BB.

Edit: Blower it is. Now I have to go to BC...

Okay, let me rephrase the question.
What are the top 3 hunts you would suggest guys put on their bucket list? (Nothing crazy expensive like elephant though - it's just not realistic for guys like me)

I've heard Douglas' logic behind this before and it is sound. First, my $.02...I've known people who dream of Western Mule Deer hunts while to others it is their everyday hunt and thus boring. Likewise with muskox, kudu, elk...hell, even Mallards! Your bucket list hunts are your bucket list hunts...no one can tell you what should be on your bucket list. Some guys would rather has ass surgery than walk 20-30 miles in a day, day after day, tracking elephants. Other guys would give their eye teeth for such an adventure. Likewise others would flat-out refuse to get on a dog sled and follow polar bear tracks. Then you get guys like some of us that would hunt anything with a legal quota. If I told you that you just had to hunt elephant you might tell me that I'm an idiot, and in that circumstance you'd be dead on the money. So you think what you really want to hunt, or a place you'd really like to hunt, then make it happen.

To steal Douglas' sage logic, don't wait to do a bucket list hunt until you have the money to do the hunt. It will never happen because life has a way of, well, getting in the way. Rather, go see your friendly banker and take out a loan. Maybe it's $10K to hunt Muskox, $15K for Elk, $25K for Brown Bear, $30K for Cape Buffalo, $40K for Elephant, $50K for Marco Polo...you get the picture. Take out a loan and get making the plans. Put yourself on a monthly payment schedule and you'll have it paid off in the same amount of time as that new One-Ton you had your eye on. Drive the old truck for a few more years. Quit going to the bar. Eat out on special occasions only. No more smokes or Timmies. It's doable if you're willing to be disciplined. As my new found mentor Jocko Willink says...Discipline Equals Freedom.

For me, age and a retirement income are the two biggest governing factors. For the last number of years, my hunting trips/outings have been limited primarily to Alberta for Mule Deer and Antelope draws, guided by my Daughter and Son In Law. The 'plan' for next year is for Moose in the B.C. central interior with my Son. Another I've been inquiring about,;) taking all 'factors' into consideration, is for the possibility of Bison in northern Alberta. And, dreaming a little, I've also made inquiries of a Moose hunt with a handgun in Alaska:d. However, plans could take a change with a little luck on Lotto 649 tonight:p. Luck there is the only thing that would get me even close to some of the hunts Douglas has experienced.

c-fbmi . you have done a very nice job there with your place .i like your pictures .it must be something to see in real life . very impressive .

I just like hearing what guys who have done it say, truth is I probably won't ever do a guided hunt. I would rather spend the money on tooling or projects - but I still like to dream.

I guess if I had to pick one, I would love to do a grizzly hunt and since Alberta closed our opportunity I would have to do a guided hunt in another province or country.

You need to do at least one........ preferably for a species you haven't hunted....... you would be very surprised how it makes you feel......

Everyone has their own limits and preferences..... I admire what you can do with a rifle..... pretty cool stuff.....

I learned quickly that I can get hog hunts on the cheap when I travel to the southern US...... my last two cost me $150 a piece.... but I was there and it cost me less thanks to work footing the hotel and flight....since I was there for work anyways....

You would be surprised what is out there....... I totally respect trophy hunters, as well as their passion, but I must admit I can't afford it..... not regularly anyways......

Go chase a hog...... you will love it.....

Well DG..........given your criteria I would highly recommend a kudu hunt with a couple other plains game thrown in. Nothing screams Africa like a big old 55" 2 and 1/2 twister bull Kudu. I would also recommend a musk ox hunt, they are still very reasonable and an impressive but not often seen mount. Asian Ibex is still quite reasonable and another very impressive mount as well. None of these are break the bank hunts and you could do all three for the price of a new diesel pick up. Another very seldom done hunt in Canada which is still reasonable is Atlantic Walrus out of Coral Harbour, had a lot of fun blasting away at seals with a rifle on a boat out in Hudsons Bay..........a very futile exercise I assure you and really hard on ammo but not seals. A very humbling experience, sort of, it's like trying to shoot silhouette from a walking horse.........lots of shooting, no clanging !! The walrus hunt is a foregone conclusion, just pick the biggest one and hammer him. But the seals are a blast.........and the char fishing the right time of year is supposed to be outstanding.
There are lots of exotic hunts that aren't break the bank expensive, but for quantity and cost an African 6-10 animal plains game hunt is far and away the best deal going. And you also get to say you've hunted Africa..........

BigUglyMan said quit going to the bar !

Thanks for the laugh.

Muskox would be very fun.

Yep NL-H she's a blown 427 making 745 Hp @ 7000 RPM at 18 lbs boost and 689 ft/lbs of torque, on the dyno. I built 'er from the ground up and it has the best of everything in it.......It's on an original L88 4 bolt main block bored .060 over, roller cam, toothed external rubber timing set up, steel roller rockers ,World Products aluminum match ported and polished heads (I did the port matching and polishing), 4 angle valve grind set, custom made blower pistons, cross drilled steel crankshaft, H frame steel con rods, length gauged and matched as well as weight matched and polished, special head, main and con cap bolts. The blower is a BDS which is being over driven at a 2/3 ratio and like I said making 18 lbs boost @ 7000 RPM. Ignition is all electronic and computer controlled, it backs the timing out one degree for each pound of boost over 10 lbs. The engine has a complete pressure matched dual fuel system right from the tank, one electric and one cam driven mechanical. Both feed a regulator mounted at the back of the carbs, which feeds the four feeds to the two Barry Grant blower carbs..........total flow 1600 CFM..........She's a hellfire, horsepower breathing monster, and the throttle response is as fast as the speed of light. If I can get 'er to hook up good she should lift the front of the '55 off the ground. I have about $40K and 6 months build (in Whitehorse) and dyno time (in Edmonton) into that engine. Should have bought a crate motor for 15K...
Yep, I know a little bit about building racing engines too..........another passion of mine......VERY fast cars......I'm getting too old to drive 'em any more, reflexes are getting too slow, but I do love building them.

Not exactly gun or hunting related but good guy fun none the less.............

Audi RS7 should do you just fine Doug. Stock is mid-11's and a tune gets you in the 10's. All wheel drive and full creature comforts to boot.

With respect to the Challenger, I used to have one with a built and blown 440 (original 6 pack motor but not matching to the car. Plum Crazy Purple. That drivetrain in a tubbed 'Cuda ran mid 9's. In the none cut up Challenger it was a scary proposition and stepping on it sounded like you were in a DC-10.

I love the plum crazy color phase of the challenger................skip the Audi, I have a Ferrari and a Jag.
Before I broke it, I had a factory ordered 2006 Corvette Z06 LS7 427 (7 litre) with 505 rear wheel Hp, that car was a 10 sec car right from the factory. It was magic, had the heads up display projected on the wind screen, you climbed into the driver's seat and you automatically became 18 again. When I fired mine up Led Zeppelin, Black Dog came on the Alpine stereo at an ear bleeding level 10. Unfortunately the only thing that became 18 again was the mind, the reflexes were still 50 something and not quite quick enough when the a$$ end broke loose and it jumped the curb and landed on a rock pile..........the insurance company wrote it off and gave me $49,500 for $110,000 car with 1000 miles on it..........I sued, they won and I got my $49,500 less lawyers fees..........not the best investment I have made in my life. But it was an amazing car, none the less.

Well that hurts. Was it still brand new with 1000 miles, or a year or two old by this point? (I see you have more than one toy to be driving, so I could see it taking a while to hit 1000 miles.) For a stock car, Corvettes are amazing for the amount of power they have compared to their cost... Just gotta slow down before the corners...

Johnn, thanks for the kind words........I look forward to sitting in the Man Cave and sharing a good single malt and a Cuban cigar with you someday and discussing the different hunts. This invite is open to all gun and hunting nuts that may pass through southern B.C. There is always a bed with clean sheets and the potential for some good food, good scotch and some good hunting stories. If the weather co-operates maybe even some shooting of oddball cartridges, big thumpers or old Winchesters.........

I'm generally not much a hard-bar drinker, or a cigar smoker, but I'd be more than willing to make an exception for an occasion such as meeting someone with as much knowledge and experience as you. I would be even more interested in spending a day with you in your shop, watching someone work on a project like building one of your custom guns like the 450 or the 22-284 you've got planned would be amazing.

Anytime Suther.........just give me a PM and a couple days heads up..........Oh and the car was 4 years old at the time of it's demise...........there's just not a lot of summer driving time in the Yukon. Also, the rear tires had gone 1000 miles, the body only about 4-500 or so.........:d:d:d:d:d

One thing that always amazed me with that Z06, if you turned the wheel to the left steering stop and dumped your foot off the clutch and kept it just under the rev limiter, it would keep going in circles until you couldn't see out of the smoke column..........truly amazing car.
