Hello,
Long story short, I have an old wingmaster that seems to have troubles feeding shells from the tube. It seems to release the shell if I slightly twist the forend. I would like to keep this receiver IF it will be reliable. Does anyone know what the problem is or how to fix it before I take it to a gunsmith? Appreciate it thanks

Sounds like a worn or bent action bars. Replacement of or straightening would be the answer. Dirt can also be a factor in causing what you describe. Be sure both cartridge stops (guides) are clean and secure in the receiver. Straightening the action bars is not an easy task and can be over done. Be sure the fore end is tight on the assembly also. Hope this trouble shooting helps.

I think that part will work. Before I ordered it though I would try to tweak the action bars and closely inspect the internals. Just for fun (with the gun unloaded) slowly open the action while looking inside the gun. Watch to see how the cuts on the actions bars work with the cartridge stops. This may give you an answer to the problem you have. I would also try the same thing with dummy cartridges. This may be the answer to determine the exact problem.

I closely examined the action bars and shell catchers. Seem to function ok and no debris. I did notice with the forend all the way forward in lock position there is about 1/8” of movement front to back. Would you say this is still action bar wear? Being it’s a 1955 model I would expect some wear. My super mag doesn’t do this. Thanks

That movement is pretty normal. Be sure that the wooden fore end is tight on the slide assembly. If they start to move issues like you described can occur. Easiest way to check is with the gun closed trap the action bars against the barrel and mag tube with one hand and twist the fore end with the other hand. Any rotation of the fore end independent of the slide will be noticeable.
