Hi All:
I have some fairly ancient (to me) factory ammo. Based on the boxes, some of these may not be within my lifetime. Being the typical spreadsheet nerd that I am, for all my ammo, I record the lot numbers and have had reasonable success in figuring out how old something is.
I have a number of boxes for which I have no way to decipher this info for the lot numbers (and for some don't have a reasonable guess)...perhaps those in the know who know both the history or perhaps have some reference point can help me here...
1. I have a Box of Western Super X 303 Savage 190 Grain Silver Tip. This does not look like it is easy to find or get nowadays. Lot number is 62HN02 or 62RN02 or 62HNQ2. Box appears to me to be from maybe 1960s to 1970s...I could be wrong...but it's fun to guess...
2. Imperial (CIL) Special Long Range Rifled Slugs (20ga). When I open the flap of this box, it looks like it is going to fall apart Lot number is FC00 35P23. My guess on this one is 1960s.
3. Imperial (IVI) Rifled Slugs Shotshells (20ga). Lot number is EBEZ-3726. I will guess 1980s maybe...
4. Winchester yellow box (big red W) 30 Carbine Hollow Soft Point 110grain. Looks like there would be a mouse trap inside, but it's 50 rounds. Lot number is 1725GF81. From what I can see it could be 1965, 1989 or 2013. Definitely not 2013 and unlikely 1989 based on the old font
5. Winchester Western 30 Carbine (white box) 110gr Full Metal Case. Lot number appears to be 8WB60 066. The W may be 1957, 1981 or 2005. I suspect 1981...style of box and font and graphics would be consistent with that.
I got some loose Dominion Arms 303 Savage. Anyone know the history of this? No way to date it as it is loose, but curious about the history if anyone knows.
I never thought I'd find old ammo boxes and trying to date them, so fascinating!
