Old army ammo box?

Does anyone know whether it is safe to store my factory ammo in an old milsurp ammo box. I dont know if it had corrosive ammo in it previously. Would I be okay if I just clean it out with solvent?

I just picked one of those up actually. Although it can be awfuly hard to find one in decent condition.

Princess auto has them on for 7.99 right now...they have lots at the united blvd. location, dont know bout anywhere else.

1k of loose 7.62x39, or about 2.2k of 9mm will fit in the .50 BMG box. It takes up about half the space of crated ammo when you store it that way.

As long as the rubber gasket is in sound condition you have an air and moisture tight storage method.

I wouldn't bother cleaning it unless it was dirty. Corr ammo will have no affect.
