I bought an old fabrique nationale auto-5 16ga.,. to load it you cannot load it like my light 12. you put one shell in the ejection port, push the button and the bolt comes forward, chambers the shell and you are ready for action. then you must push the button in and hold it so the lifter will move up when you push the other two shells into the magazine.is this normal for an old auto-5 or is something wrong??

P.S according to the proof marks this was manufactured 1924 or earlier.

OK guys, you can stop worrying, I,ve got it figured out.

:confused::D:eek:

I've got an old Remington Model 11 - a licensed copy of the auto 5 built by Remington and it has to be loaded in the same way. From what I could find online the old auto 5's and the model 11s used a one piece shell latch but the newer auto 5s used a two piece allowing you to load shells without pushing the action release. I also rear somewhere that you can retrofit the two piece shell latch to the older models.
