Old Bayonet

I have had this old bayonet since I was about 13. A guy I used to cut grass for gave it to me one summer with a bunch of other stuff. Just looking for some info on it. I think it is from an FNC1A1 but not too sure.

There are markings on it but I don't have a good camera and my cell is all I use pretty much anymore.

At the base of the 8" blade right where the handle meets, the date is stamped: A 1957. The A has a complete circle around it.
On the hilt on the same side is: 150-3900 C1

It is in pretty bad shape. He said it saw combat. I'm not sure how accurate he was on that, but I know he was a war vet. He showed me his leg where he got hit with grenade shrapnel and bone fragments from the 2 guys in front of him, and a bullet wound in his abdomen where he got 'winged' trying to take out a machine gun post.

Canadian bayonet C1. Fits the FNC1A1, FNC2A1 and SMG C1. Will also fit the British and Aussie L1 rifles and the Indian 1A.

Looks like someone went to town with the sharpener. Issue blades were dull.
 
C1 Bayonet

Your bayonet has the wide fuller, they are usually found on the 1957 date bayonets. There aren't any reference books that even mention this information.

"...from an FNC1A1..." C1 in 1957. It's an early one. CF adopted the rifle in 1955. It didn't see any combat though. Might have been there during 'heated discussions' on peacekeeping missions.

He said he shaprened it for himself to use. He said he used it for a hunting and fishing knife, it was more of a tool than anything.
 
FN C1 Bayonet

The FNs were shipped from the factory in carboard boxes in a sealed bag. When we opened the rifles there was no grease to clean off, a nice touch. The rifles were accompained with the bayonet, a steel scabbard and 4 magazines. The rifles reached the West Coast militia about 1957.
 
The fuller is the groove you see on each side of the bayonet just below the spine. Some people call it the blood groove.

I've heard it refered to as a 'flute' as well thanks for the info.

BTW all its for sale on the EE under Blades
