Western Scope was a wholesale outlet and as I recall it was only firearms and related items. No fishing equipment as best I remember. It was not open to the public but a few non-firearms businesses in Calgary had accounts there. I was fortunate enough to work at one of those and bought my Remington 700ADL, 7mm Rem Mag through my employer in 1961. No markup so got it for an even $100.00. Bought a few other things there over the late 60's. Not sure when Western Scope closed their doors.
I was sitting with a couple of other guys having On the afternoon of April 21, 1975, 1,360 kilograms of dynamite ignited at the Canadian Industries Ltd. plant in Calgary’s southeast, sending a 300-metre fireball into the sky, accompanied by a roar that could be heard in every quadrant of the city. 6 dead 3 injured.
Most of the devastation, however, was contained within six-foot thick barricades, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the complex, where nearly half a million kilograms of dynamite were stored in several separate buildings and where 200 men were working.
Something to be said about sound design.
I was working at Barotto Sports that day... we did not know what caused the noise until a customer came in and told us.
I think Barotto's was still on 7th street in 1975. Our office as only 2 blocks from Barotto's so I used to be a frequent visitor there. Frequently looked at the Ithaca SXS 20g which I think was made for Ithaca by SKB. Would have made a great pheasant gun but I just couldn't find the extra ~$150 to buy it. Still wish I had taken that plunge.
Found an old box in all my crap... about 9"x9"x19".
It has to be from the early 70s' as far as I can remember...
