Is it ok to put an older bushnell scopechief rimfire 3-8 scope on a .22mag rifle?? It's a great scope and I want to use it on my mossberg chuckster .22mag but I don't want to ruin it, am I ok to use it or not so much?

Yes I know there is an optics section but I'd rather get advice from rimfire experts, optics has way too many keltec RFB lovers....

The old bushnells were robust and the .22 mag isn't a hard recoiling rifle. Go for it. My first .22 had a bushnell rimfire scope and i used it for years.

if it's square on the bottom , it doesn't use a ring at all- it's a claw affair that clamps to that "rail " on the bottom and into the 3/8s groove on 22 receivers- old bushnell scopes used that system- and a really oddball allen key that doesn't fit anything else- the way around the allen key was to mill a slot in the screws- lose the claw and you may be screwed unless you can have one made

K now I realize I need the mounts for this scope, anyone have a set laying around? Here is a pic of the scope for reference.

They are fine rimfire scopes!

The last Cooey64 I sold went with one (fixed 4x)...now Dragonshooter uses it to beat me! I like that you can mount the scope very far back...no rings to limit mounting position. Also, it's a very rigid set-up.

I would call around to gunshops/sportin' stores. These were very popular scopes and, I'm sure there's a base for one out there. You could also run an ad in the EE and, be on the lookout at shows. I don't think I been to a show where there wasn't one there (usually about 15$'s).

if and when you find a clamp, be sure and machine a slot in the screws- you WON'T find an allen key to fit- it's not metric or english, but some wierd size you won't find anywhere else- i came across mine years ago, found it rounded out, and dremeled a slot instead- so even THEIR key doesn't fit properly- otherwise it would have matched perfectly- there's also a torx head that works, but WHO carries a torx in their pocket- but everyone has a slotted screwdriver or can improvise one
