Old classic hunting rifles.

Haha! I studied the pantheon via the Greek's first. I figured, seeing as they were 'appropriated' by the Romans, learn the greek names/ stories and then the roman names.

Ted: You bet, I retired and built a place to "play Guns", you would be very welcome.

Thomas: Well I have always called her Diana the Roman equivalent of the Greek Artemis but then I really have no idea. I have tried to find the work that the engraving was copied from but there are thousands of Artemis & Diana renditions. Everything I post will be a 30-06 unless noted otherwise ;-).

Love the Ross manitou210

My M98 Oberndorf original sporting rifle, large banner Mauser, a rare bird due to the oversize banner. And yep- she gets hunted!

Outstanding rifle Ardent, but I am shocked that a man like yourself would not have the screws in the butt plate properly indexed. Tsk tsk. ;)

Ha, well caught me there, she's a working rifle. It's in the running between that and my .375 for this March's tropical hunt. My son said I should take the "Big One" though, and I'm leaning that way, it just serves me too well but isn't a classic yet so can't post her here.

Guess I should have mentioned the chambering, 7x57. I sold this once, and was very fortunate to buy it back, one of my biggest regrets in selling.

OK. Now I hate you. Or am just envious.

I don't suppose it'd help if I mentioned the bore's gleaming mint and the screws still have their full factory fire blue... But then I'd be bragging. She's 7lbs of perfectly balanced shooting nirvana, I'm an iron sights guy and it points and shoots like a shotgun.

Now I hate you too!!!!
Or maybe just envious as well

Yeah, no, it doesn't help. Jimmyjazz, something must be done about this fellow!

Actually, all can be "forgiven" if he takes it to Africa and shoots something with it. Maybe an Impala and a Kudu. BUT, only if he posts pictures so we can live vicariously.

Very nice rifle Ardent!
Any pics of it beside the Ruger RSM?
Going from RSM to that must feel like picking up a Sweet 16 after lugging a 12ga.

I was lucky enough to recently pick up a nice 7x57 AI put together by Ellwood. It's a beauty - will post pics once I get it back.
Having it checked over by Master Smith Stephen Milton after CP did their best to destroy it in transit. Thank goodness it appears to be OK.

Cheers,
Rob

Probably could find one to drudge up, yes she feels pretty svelte compared to the mainstay, but to be truthful I carry either and the weight difference (2.5lbs) isn't really that noticeable to me yet. I keep thinking something like the 7x57 or my lightweight custom going together right now might be required as I mellow, but that day seems a ways off yet.

I hope your rifle is healthy, I've been very lucky with CP myself around here, touch wood.

Great thread. I like traditional looks too. I have a parker hale safari style 30-06 coming. A I have an older springfield sporter that i'd like to restock, as its just the original stock cut down. Any recommendation on stock suppliers for that?

I didn't really think of my Merkel as a classic, but there was another one on here so here's mine... 211E / 231E two barrel set, 16/7x57R and 16/16 with Hensoldt 4x in claw mounts
