An old co-worker recently gave me his reloading stuff, which I have no need for since I'm already set up.

Just curious if anyone has ever used an old press like this one before:

It's threaded for standard dies, but the shell holder is a screw on affair, not a modern snap in type. The shell holder appears to be for 30-06 head size.... there may be other shell holders in the box of stuff he gave me. Just wondering if anyone has every used a press like this? I don't need it for anything, so I was thinking about giving it to a new reloader wanting to get into the hobby if it's still a serviceable press to use.

It's very much in the same style as the Lyman 6 position turret press I have.

The screw in style shell holder would be a bit of a deal killer if there isn't a full set of the holders. The press itself is certainly useable if the ram moves freely and with no play. But the need to find special shell holders would really mess things up. We're too used to being able to just use the snap in style which seems to enjoy a wide degree of universality between die and press brands.

Remember seeing them but never owned one
Not my words but some info I found
Cheers
Echo is a good, sturdy well made press. Echo stands for E.C. Herkner Co. They also made a line of swaging dies for use on their press. I have identified three models, A B and C along with two earlier versions. They use a standard diameter ram so a Lyman or RCBs will interchange. The shellholders are threaded and use a little spanner wrench for instaliation/removal. The threading is precise so the front of the shellholder is always correctly aligned to the front. The threaded shellholders for the RF Wells press will also work as will the Herter's threaded shellholders. These are longer and will affect ram travel but will work if nothing else is available. Following the ECHO the company was sold to an outfit in Canada who tried to keep the line going as Quako. Their presses are scarce. On another note ECHO made the first run of RCBS JR presses. They can be identified with the light green and white speckled paint.

I have one of those, with the ram from a modern RCBS ram so it take's modern shell holders.
Any idea what kinda price I should put on it?

now I'm going to have to dig around. I think I may have gotten one in a box of stuff at the last auction I was at. Didn't really look at it carefully but it had a bullet puller on it that I wanted, and at $20 you really can't go wrong.

I have got one and have used it for years. I just took the set screw out of the ram and RCBS, Lee shell holders, etc. snap right in. I have had good accuracy with it and loaded 1000's of rounds.

I heard too they were supposedly made in Canada and they made some of the RCBS presses. Got to be good stuff. Not sure what they are worth. I picked up an RCBS Junior II for 100 bucks last year used. If you got 40 - 50 bucks for the Ecko that would be fair - I think anyway.
