I bought a Leupold VARXIII 1.5-5x20mm off an old friend of mine. Scope is in really good shape for it's age. At 1.5, I pick it up on a rifle and the words on a book I use for focus check at 8 yards are a little fuzzy. I thought maybe I was too close, or it was my eyes. I have a VXIII 2.5-8x36mm sitting on a shelf waiting for warmer weather to be mounted on another rifle, so I tried the same thing at 2.5. The lettering is much crisper.
I thought maybe the focus was out, but the crosshairs are crisp on the 1.5-5. I tried adjusting the focus anyways thinking it may make a difference but nothing.
To be clear, the scope is not fogged over and useless, it just is not quite as crisp as the newer scope. My question is this something that may be wrong with the scope, my eyes (doubt that as the other one is clearerand I am wearing my glasses) or I am expecting too much of an old scope? I was going to send it into Korth for a once over, but wanted to see if it is just too high an expectation on my part.
