Old FN M98 30-06

I had one similar many years ago that had been rechambered by a previous owner from 30-06 to 308 Norma Magnum. Kicked like a mule! It was far too lightweight for a magnum cartridge in my opinion. It wore a 1.5x - 4.5x Bushnell Scopechief.

This one ain't no lightweight. 8.25lbs bare rifle.

I think it needs the bolt modified with a large tactical ball on the end, add a velcro cheek pad in kryptek camo pattern with bullet loops, and then take a grinder to that front site piece, then it will be a perfect hunting rig!

Hahaha. To be serious though, nice old rifle there. I want to see it with the trigger/safety and maybe some optics on it, though with 220's maybe open sites will be nice too.

I like mine. It’s an newer US market example without the rear sight.

You are a lucky guy. I have it's mate in 35 Whelen and it shows no signs of being re-bored or re-barreled. I wouldn't trade it for any of my pre 64 Model 70's. By the way the safety is fine as is, just put it down enough to get your thumb on it if you think you will need it in a hurry. Enjoy it and don't pay any attention to the Johnny- come- latelys who disparage "Fudds.

You're right there. I have a couple 2.5-8s as well.

The other reason is that I like the 1.5-5 on a rifle with bbl sights. Makes it look rather Fuddesque. :)

Nah. Fuddesque would mean you took the sights off, jewelled the bolt, engraved your SIN# on the receiver, and cut the stock to install a really thick recoil pad for the 10 rounds you shot all year. You’d also want full pop value on the EE for the “tasteful” mods. lol
