My buddy was given this shotgun from is grandfather and we would like to know more information about it. It is a 12g 2 1/2 double barrel. I beleave it has been modified to take 2 3/4 as a 3 inch shell drops right into the chamber. How old is it and what do you guys think the value of this gun is. Thanks

Ithaca flues you can date them by the serial. Basically worthless wall hangers. I unloaded mine for $150. You might get $200 as its an English stocked model. But unless these are grade 3 to 5 they are worth little.

There was a guy on the EE that is completely out to lunch and trying to get $750 cause he claims his is rare. Ha no they are not rare at all.

First check if it has a longer chamber reamed. Then only shoot normal lead shot in it. Would work fine for upland still. Price is really dependent on what you want for it and what somebody would pay for it. They made many of them.

I think the chamber was lengthened since a 3" shell fits fine. Just want to double check befor i shoot 2 3/4 out of it. Would slugs be ok to shoot out of it. Its more centimental just was curious on the value.

The barrels probably aren't regulated much further than 40-50 yards. You'd have to do some testing with both barrels at various distances to figure out what distance the barrels cross each other.

Get it gauged properly with a bore gauge the 3" shell is not a good test of chamber length.

If the chambers have been lengthened, who knows what other metal was removed. I would not shoot anything out of that gun until I had the barrels checked by a competent SxS smith who can accurately measure the barrel wall thickness throughout the entire length of the barrels and carefully inspect and measure depth of pits. I like my eyes and hands too much.
