Old Mauser makover- lot of pictures

Nice one.

Well done

Maybe I missed it but was it reblued professionally ?

No. Super Blue from Birchwood Casey. However I am preparing the surface in question first, making sure that there is no rust on it. Polishing would be ideal, but it’s not always practical. So I am making sure it’s clean, smooth and grease free. I would degrease it 2-3 or 4 times before starting to work. Then it’s time for the heat gun. I am typically setting it for medium or just past medium heat. Not the highest setting. Gradually heating up the metal. Once it’s hot I am applying the first coat of bluing solution. I would let it work for 30 seconds and wipe off the area with paper towel after that time. There should be no solution left on the steel as it will continue to work if left there. One more thing. For each coat use separate patch or cotton pad. I don’t use the same pad twice. Otherwise the solution will be contaminated. I work on small area and move to another later. If it’s done properly there will be no visible line in between the areas. So, once the metal is clean of the solution, I would grab extra fine “0000” steel wool. Starting polishing the metal. Often the first coat seems to be disappearing after polishing. It’s normal and in fact it’s not disappearing, it’s just barely visible initially. One needs to make it smooth. No stains should be visible, just smooth, equally shiny surface. Then it’s time to degrease the area again. Once it’s done, one cycle is completed. I would repeat it 5-7 times for each area following the same steps. Cheers!
