Old milsurp flyer from 1975

yeah, i am sure it is easier for me to come up with $2k than for my parents to come up with $300 in 1971.

Take another 5% off price - no GST back then. But the surplus heyday had to be the 80's. That was when all the postwar 12.x black rifles like FN, G3, AK, real GI M14 (not lame Norc knockoffs), Uzi, L2A3Sterling etc began to flood the surplus market at very affordable prices. Many were also classified as non restricted at the time.

Its interesting. I have a 1993 catalog from International, the prices from 75 to 93 are about 4 times, and about ten times the price from 75 until today. Bayonets are up a similar value, but new manufactured ammunition from PRVI in 1993 is not much different than it is today, according to Internationals magazine/price list.e; .308/1000 $199, 7.62x39/1000 $199, .303 British/1000 $399....

This would've been a smart purchase... Great investment.

They sell for 50x that price sometimes...

;)

The great take home message here is that these rifles WERE bought by Canadians and they are lurking out there in the corners of gun cabinets nation wide! When the long gun registry gets chopped soon, these may start to see the light on the EE, auctions and for sale in the used section of gun stores! The older owners may just not know or want to go through all of the hoops required to sell them right now.

For the flyer in 1959, say the buyers were 20-40 years old with good jobs to be able to afford these back then, that would put them at 72-92 years old and they will start to sell them shortly if not already?! For the 1975 catalogue, they would be 56-76 years old and may hang on to them a bit longer. Hopefully they don't have children that would be interested in them and would sell them to us, or worse, gun hating wives that give them to the police to be crushed...

You are no better off in 1975 or now, you're in the same boat as today.
You only had so much disposable income, you still needed money for gas, groceries, power, water, beer, mortgage, etc...

Actually 1975 was the peak year for the Canadian working man. That was the year that working people in this country had the highest disposable income on average. It has been downhill ever since.

30+ years from now $1200.00 Garands might look like a steal but it sure don`t right now.

Yah, but 15 years ago, they were $200 Garands...

I think that milsurps like the SVT and AG42 will be going for crazy prices in 20 years compared to what they cost today.

But it's not like the average guy was going to buy 1 or 10 of everything in the 1975 flyer. Same as today, you might buy a couple of them or just one.

Only a time machine will get you a great deal today!

As soon as I saw the catalogue I looked up the company... all I could find was mention of it on a website...

"Think about it people. A dozen thriving businesses shut down due to a couple of Federal Laws and for what? The Feds say "firearms crime is still too high, need more rules". Need another example? Just as the present Liberal government was announcing C-68, I called my favourite International Firearms Dealer in Montreal to order a couple new guns. I was immediately transferred to a US based company that was taking orders for what once was a multi million dollar international Canadian based company. Yup! GONE! When I asked why to the manager of Century Arms in the USA, he simply stated, "Gun laws are getting too tough in Canada, International pulled out"."

Depressing.

Incredible. So what is a WW2 milsurp going to be worth in another 35 years? Do you guys anticipate milsurp values to continue to increase at the same rate as they have? Even with massive price inflation from 35+ years ago you dont see very many of these guns for sale anywhere in Canada. Some blame the registry... maybe? Internet discussion and selling has sure helped move the prices up. And up?

Thanks for the post.
