First brand new rifle I bought back in early 80's was a Featherweight in .270. Was a real tach driver for a lightweight barrel.

I always liked those rifles, but hated the checkering. Never bought one.
I'm the opposite: Love the fleur-de-lis checkering. I find the stock fits my hands perfectly.
When they first came out I was taken with the classic lines, and bought one in 30-06. I needn't have worried about accuracy with the light barrel, it was and still is a consistently accurate rifle.
Anyone who seeks a light, comfortable walnut and steel hunting rifle should not overlook this model.

I too like the looks of the stock and the rifle overall. When the XTR fwts first came out I would have happily bought one, but money was tight so it didn't happen. I'd be happy to hunt one now if I could find one in good shape, preferably 270 or an 06.

Wish Winchester went back to red pads. A black forend tip would nicely replace the schnabel also. Just my opinion.

My XTR featherweight in .270 is my go-to deer rifle. Light, accurate and pleasing to the eye. Beats any of the new "entry level" plastic rifles hands down.
