I went to the outdoor range with my formerly rare (Till i scoped it) Bubba Finnish Variant Mosin Nagant . It was a tad chillie just about zero . with a bit of a wind . I normally shoot at the hundred mark but because of the thaw , that bit of the range is a swamp . so i was shooting at 50 meters . at politically incorrect targets im sure .Anyway she shoots prety consistent , and diddnt seem to loose any accuracy despite getting warmed up some ,i fired about 80 rounds of Hungarian 1950`s surplus . Till my shoulder started to complain.i know im a bit of a wuss .

I guess I should have used the Finnish National anthem , but i dont think anyone would recognise it

I know scoping the beast has been frowned apon , but when i got my sticky paws on it , i thought it was a parts bin rifle . I did look into its origins , but diddnt find anything special about it . Obviously looked in the wrong place , and should have made enquiery here perhaps .
Damage done lesson learned and all that . sorry if i still enjoy shooting it though

That ain't bad at all with surplus ammo, with handloads and a bit of tweaking I bet you could get it down to one ragged hole. I bet you're glad you put a scope on it. I should have my mount by next week, I can hardly wait to get the drill press running.

Where are you getting brass for the 7.62 X 54R?
 
I got two boxes of winchester 180 grn loads with the rifle, I intended to reload that to start with. Is 7.62 X 54R brass hard to come by ?
 
I am working now on accurizing mine. I have PSO-1 scope, which I gonna put on the special rail and all I will need is bend the bolt.

Instead of bending the bolt, try to get a bolt body with the extended lever. It is currently on sale in the U.S.
Bending the bolt won't give you the mechanical advantage you need and it is ugly at best.
I think there's a guy currently on Gunboards.com that specializes in converting Mosin bolt bodies; just ask them.
You can send him your bolt or buy one from him.
Just swap the bolt head and you're in business.
Good luck and try not to do this to a collectable M-91/30!

You could make your own . you can get a spare bolt body from fea bay .I dontrecomend cutting original just in case you make a lunch of it .
cut the knob off flush , and then cut flush to the bolt body , find a coach bolt or other long bolt of similar thicknes . drill bolt body and knob same diamiter , bend the coach bolt .(heat it up) and cut to suit . Dry fit the bits and make sure you clear the wood and scope And the only tricky bit is getting them welded together . then clean and polish .
I took my bits to a gunsmith to be joined , I believe he used a silver(hard) solder low melting point 415 degrees but very strong .
I also purchased one from the states .

It's not bad, though sometimes the primer hole is a bit off center. Not a huge problem though. It DOES have crimped primers, so use a decent press to decap it and ream the pockets.

Neck sizing will prolong brass life as well if you only use it in one rifle.
 
I also use the Igman for 8mm and 7.62x54R. I have no problems reloading it and I quite recommend it. Using the 123 grain SP .311 bullets in the Mosin makes for a soft recoil and pretty good varmint round! I only have one of each calibre for my milsurps so I just neck size them... make sure you have a decent decapping setup and you are good to go.

Thanks for the info, I have decapped 7.62 NATO IVI on my press with no problems using a Lee Universal Decapping Die, so I guess I'm good to go.

I had planned to try the 123 gr bullets, glad to see that they tame the recoil :)

Things military(thingsmilitary.com) in Calgary have Igman7.62X54R (soft point) bullits for sale at $11.95 for a box of 20 (I can feel a moose comming on). or about $280 for 500. non corrosive
so you gotta shoot em first to get the cases i guess . unless you travel to Bosnia to get some . I guess when they stopped killing each other and they had all the ammunition left over they decided to sell the bullits to the west.:wave:
 
Oh well, I guess I will just have to by complete ammo instead of brass then. I hate shooting factory stuff in anything other than a semi auto.
 
You can buy lapua brass for allot more money than the loaded igman, or buy norma ammo and use that brass. Its great brass! I was lucky and got some 100rds norma ammo for igman prices! Those groups are easly doable with irons.
