I purchased 2 boxes of 338 win mag 225gr nosler partitions. 1 box has all the bullets with a groove in the shank. Will these shoot the same as the other new bullets. I've never seen partitions with a groove

The old yellow box screw machine bullets? I just used up the last of the 140gr .264's on various critters .......they are as good as the newer version........Harold

They work as well as the new version, but may shoot differently. I have a bunch in 2 diameters. Both shoot similar groups, but in the 95 grain 6mm
loadings, the two groups are 2" apart.

Only by trying them will yu know for sure. Dave.

I managed to scoop up a box of .338 210gr Partitions from a gun show just before hunting season last fall. They were also the old style machined ones. Most bullets I had tried in my .338-06 grouped horizontally the same, just the vertical impact changed. With these older Partitions the group moved 2" to the right at 100 yards, with 5 shots well within an inch. So I just clicked the scope over 8 clicks to the left and that was that!

You'll have to send a couple downrange to know for sure where they are shooting.

No difference in my son's 6.5 T3 dead elk, antelope, bear ,both types of deer and a couple moose later we finally ran out of the partial 50 count box....garage sale purchase......Harold

I forgot to mention I have a leupold cds scope and my dial is made for my load using the newer bullets. So they have to shoot the same or the grooved bullets are useless to me

I bought these bullets off a fellow cgn member and he did not disclose that the bullets had the groove.

Only one way to find out .......load a few and see if they hit the same place as the others...........Harold

One could argue that your scope is useless if it won't deal with different bullets.

Precisely my argument against "custom" dials that only work with one load in a specific set of atmospherics.

I'm very much inclined to agree with B.U.M. on this one. The closest I get to CDS is a B&C, and I can test it with different loads to get points of impact
if I change to a different load. Dave.

I don't want to change to a different load. My sako 75 338 win mag with 225gr Partitions shoot a 10 shot average of 2824fps and 1/2" groups. I only shoot this load thru this gun. I have multiple other calibers for other specific species of game

Being that the only difference is this groove, I highly doubt it will affect it's flight pattern relative to the "smooth" Partition, all else equal. So while it might have a different POI, the velocity and thus trajectory should be the same. Just re-adjust your scope, set the turrets back to zero, and you'll be good to go!

Again though, "in theory". Only way to know for sure is to shoot a couple of them.
