Old powder

Am I the only one who uses all the powder I buy and throws away the container? Granted, I'm not old enough to have bought some of those very nice looking tins.

LOL. They are not all empty. I keep a few of mine and put on a shelf for display. Those are empty. Newer plastic ones I throw out.

No, you aren't. I always save a dozen containers so I don't have to keep opening a larger keg. I just transfer it a pound at a time or if the keg gets low, purchase another and blend them into a big lot with the same burn rate.

Other than that, I throw the containers out, I like to hold onto the old metal cans for nostalgia but also because they take up less room than the new plastic containers.

I have a few very old cans of powder, from a period in the fifties when it was all considered to be alchemy.

The rest go to recycling, I would need another room, just to store the empty containers if I kept them all.

My oldest reloading book is the Lyman Ideal no. 39 (copyright 1953) and I found no loading data for this powder in it. There is some on the back of the can. The can is about 2/3s full, the powder smells good, and I plan to use it.

I have this unopened can. Must be 40 yrs old. No use to me as it is best for pistol cartridges,unless someone has a recipe using this for a .308 hunting load.

The H-240 I have an old manual Belding and Mueller from 1951 that mentions it. My paper work that came with my 55 power measure also lists it. I believe the on the paper is 51 or 52 date. 70 year old powder measure and still working. I’ll try finding the manual.
