I have a very used remington 721 riflle that i am selling but before i sell it the bolt is very sticky and i want to smoothen the operation up alot. any tips or tricks i can use to slick up this action?? i was thinking taking my dremel with a buffer attachment to polish the bolt but would this work?

thanks

The 721 does not have the anti bind system of current 70s. I would suggest cleaning thoroughly, lubricating, and then trying to determine where and why the bolt isn't moving as smoothly as desired. It may be that the lugways in the receiver, and the tp and bottom of the lugs could use a bit of a polish. Don't know that it would be easy to do a good looking job of polishing a bolt with a Dremel.

Thoroughly wash it out with solvent and check to make sure no scope mounting screws are protruding into the bolt race or that there is no loctite or foreign substance built up under the screw holes. Polish the bolt body with 220 grit wet or dry paper by hand.

I'd clean and lube before I polished anything...I've owned at least a half dozen 722's and 721's...they are smooth operating when clean and lubed properly...if you start polishing you could ruin a nice old rifle...
