Old school M16 Bipod - Where are they?

If your doing a retro build you can use this as a reference. The serial number takes it back to 1965 or 66. The camo duct take was not my doing, that was from the Quebec Police force it came from. Good luck with your build.
 
The bipods were generally used for supporting the early and heavy starlight scopes. Many retro pictures show the set up with an early AN/PVS-2 and a bipod mount to support the rifle with it.
 
Prior to the adoption of the FN Minimi as the M249, the squad automatic weapon was simply an M16A1 issued with a bipod. Likewise, the M14 before it was intended to be issued with bipod and fire selector to the automatic rifleman while the rest of the squad's rifles were semi-auto only.

Very nice minus the tape. does it have the trap door in the butt?
I'm going to build a retro 15/16 with the irg parts kit. Hopefully they are in decent shape. I have a spare furniture set just in case though. as well as an m3 bipod and case, just to keep this on topic!

I don't know what is on the gun in the pic (not my pic)
My factory stock 1976 SP1 has trap door stock .
Only the early M16's had the Bakelite stock with rubber butt pad 3 prong flash hider & no forward assist
The M16A1 had the tear drop forward assist trap door stock & bird cage flash hider
 
After zooming in on the stock it is an early M16 butt stock with rubber butt pad . You can tell by the rear sling swivel .
The gun is not an M16 though as there is no auto seal pin .
Looks like a SP1 with early surplus stock & flash hider replacing original AR parts

I really have no intention to take this thread off topic, I just posted this pic to maybe help out sdizzyday with his build. The gun, I have to say though is not a basket case, there is no surplus stuff added to it. The only things replaced are the hammer and disconnect (probably due to either wear or liability issues). This predates bcshooters sporter by 11 years. It's a an original 1965 model with a 4 digit serial number. Oh and I should mention a bipod would work on this to keep from getting in trouble.;)
 
I ordered the Bipod from the US. A little pricy, but it certainly finished off my build. I ordered 3 extras to sell on the EE ;)
