maybe thinking of a project in the future. a carbine commando, using a norinco m4 type carbine.

parts - wear can i get?

-a upper reciever like a m16a1 but with case deflector (original c7 type)? dpms has what i need and on sale under $100 u.s. but they won't ship to canada.

-a 11.5" barrel

-a front site housing without bayonet lug. or is it possible to take off lug with out to much problem or screwing up anything?

thanks,

I'm in the middle of an XM 177E2 clone myself.
I got a old style Colt/Diemaco vinyl coated alum stock from the EE, as well as a Colt A1 upper.

I am in the same dilemma as you for US sources. Bushmaster makes an exact visual copy of the moderator but won't ship up here so I have a clone that I got off the EE for now.

My barrel is a Questar 11.5" and is a quality barrel, however, it is not the proper profile. Up here we have to give and take when doing retro guns as the original parts are scarce (though one member here has an original XM 177 barrel and teased me with pics).

Mine did have a bayonet lug and I removed it with a dremel cut off wheel. It does not hurt the function, but cut off less than you want the final profile to be and finish with a fine file.

Don't know why the angry face showed up in the title.

Hope this helped a bit.

thanks all,

not 100% sure i'm goin to do it yet. have a few things to take care of first.

realy wanted to see if parts can be had. i guess they can be, just have to keep a eye out? it kinda kills me a bit when i see a american company have what i need. but wont/can't sell it, even no it is legal here.

what is the legal stand point of getting it sent to a u.s. address and bringing it back? not talking about 30 rds mags or anything like that. just normal legal parts like a upper ect.?

recce, the commando looks good. nice job on the bayonet lug surgery.
