Old shotgun found in floorboards of hay mow

just so you guys know. put it in your mental notes that electrolysis rust removal will remove chrome. don't ask me how i know.

Thanks for the comments guys. The action opens fine and both hammers pull, lock and release fine. The left hammer cant quite make contact with the pin. The barrels are actually not in bad shape. Whoever put it there stuffed rags down the end. Im 50/50 on cleaning it and hanging it or cleaning it, putting it in my gun vice with a string on the trigger and lettin her howl..... We will see. definatly wont be shooting it beside my face

The best thing you can do is leave it alone... it looks like a very old shotgun, a great wall hanger looking like it does.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Maybe weld plugs in the barrels (thru holes drilled under the forend) and grind out the firing pin holes and fill with a spot weld in each. That way you can leave it on display unencumbered.

try EVAPO RUST, best thing I have ever found removing rust, Non toxic, soaked a engine block in it over night, all rust gone like magic, and no good metal is damaged in anyway, be sure to submerge your item complete thou as it may discolor at the water line. it can be found in Canadian tire.

That rust is quite deep and the gun probably has damascus barrels, not a good combination. It may be a 2 1/2 inch chambered as well. If it were mine I might clean it up and hang it on the wall.

I would leave it the way it is, I have an old single shot 12 gauge buried in the ground trying to get that same look, for the, den T.V. room above the fire place. Nice find.
