I was at my grandad's today (he was in the Canadian military during WW2), cleaning out his basement, when I stuumbled upon an ammo box and a gun case. The ammo box was filled with 6 boxes with 50 or so rounds in each of .303 ammo. In the gun case was an Enfield, but one that was different than what I have seen before. This one had a hex reciever, at least, I think that's what it's called. Can anyone identify this rifle? Is it just a modified Enfield or an earlier version? Please excuse my lack of knowledge in these firerarms.

Sported Short Magazine Lee Enfield Mark III*.
Not a hex receiver - the top of the receiver is essentially round, with a top flat.

Cdn. DA Mk.VII ammunition with the 1/4" Berdan primer is corrosive. DI headstamped VIIz Boxer primed ammunition is non-corrosive. Can't read the label in the photo.

The furniture is the more expensive version of the Italian Sile. Somewhere there should be a PH stamped on the rifle. If it is its a delux Parker Hale conversion. Sadly you wouldnt get £50 over here for it but I still use mine to take deer.
