Anyone else here at CGN collect old tang sights?

I'm getting quite the collection of old Savage 1899 sights and just wondered how many other sight collectors there were around here?

I've got well over 20 tangs now for the 1899 from Lyman to Marbles to Parker Hale to Redfield .......

I imagine there are a few Winchester and Marlin fans here as well.

Just a sample:

Not tang sights, but a small collection of target rifle sights - Redfield, Lyman, Parker Hale, AJP, Central, etc. Some of them are on rifles.

I've got a couple like that to, they're on the rifles.

Lyman 57SA, Redfield 70LH.

I got two off my smith the other day, one had the large aperture on it and I had a whole new outlook on them when I put it on an 1899C in 38-55, it looks great.

The Parker Hales are the way I've been going lately, harder to find but look better than the Lymans and the Marbles. I've still gotta find a King tang for my collection though.

Not to hijack your thread, MD, but I just bought a new Marbles for my .250 and I really like the sight, but get this....
The rifle normally shoots high, like 4" or so at 100 yards using the factory barrel-mounted open sight at its lowest. So I mounted the Marbles and took it to the range. Factory Remington ammo shoots about TWO FEET high with the stem as low as it will go. A little math tells me if I want to fix the problem, I need to raise the top of the front sight about 1/5 inch. Not going to do that. But I noticed the stems on your vintage sights look considerably shorter than that on the new Marbles. I may have to look into getting a vintage sight, as I would really like to use a tang sight rather than the scope. Of your sights, which one would you say can be dialled lowest? Maybe I'll keep an eye out for one.
I suppose I have the option of modifying the Marbles sight as well, but it looks like an awful lot of work. Unfortunate, because I think the new sight is quite handsome, and I love the windage-adjustable feature. Any suggestions?

I'd have to say the Parker Hale has got to be the lowest of all the stems will go. It's on my 1899 in 32-40 (3rd down from the top), as you can see, it runs the top of the barrel pretty close. My 250-3000 is on the top with a Boone scope mounted on it. The 25-35 under it has a Lyman 1A SA on it and the 38-55 is sporting a Stith mount set with a Stith 4X scope inside of it. The Parker Hale tang is gonna be a real ##### to find, when I found my first one not 2 months ago it was the first one a long time collector buddy of mine had ever seen, I just found another one last week. My 32-40 came with a Marbles ivory bead front sight which I thought was a bubba special but from what I was told Savage used to send these rifles out with the ivory bead if the rifle was ordered with a tang sight so you may wanna add one of these to your gun as well.

Charlie if you just wanna change the front sight it'd be easier than finding a PH SA. A 250-3000 will have a Lyman number 26 in it, if you can, try to find a 32CE front sight blade, the bead is a little thicker but the height might be a tad higher.

Tang Sight For a Maynard 16

Hi
Don't have a tang sight for a Maynard Model 1882 No16 Improved Target rifle do you???
It took a windage front sight and a Mid-Range Vernier rear sight.
Thanks
Albayo

Wow, even if I could find one for a rifle like that I wouldn't be able to afford to put sights on it.

Verniers and Lyman tangs are two totally different levels of sight collecting. An average ordinary vernier will run a guy well up over the $250 dollar mark these days.
