Old VS New Norinco 1911s

Hi Guys,

I want to pick up a Norc 1911 and have heard the recent production ones are much better than the old ones, but does anyone know if they still make 1911s in a GI configuration? I personally can't stand front slide serrations, even though the flat MSH and beavertail is nice on the "sport" models...

Seems like everyone is only stocking the sport models except for Marstar, was thinking of ordering this one:

Anyone know if they still make these two tone GI models, or are they only making the "police" and "sport" models now? Is there a significant difference in fit/finish on the new ones compared to the old?

I still think it's funny that the GI models are the same price as the sport ones... Seems like they should be cheaper, no? I'm just wondering whether there is a reason that this gun and the blued model are the last ones they have in stock...

I recently bought a "Sport" Norc. from Rammako's in Sudbury. Paid $329 for it. You would think the "Govn't" model would be less money as the Sport model comes with desirerable options: Extended slide release, ambi safety, extended mag release as well as fibre op front sight. I like mine. Only shot about 50 rds so far. The trigger pull is horrendous out of the box. My trigger scale reads to 72 ounces. I went waaaayyyy beyond that before the sear broke. The trigger on my Essex breaks at 56 oz. The 7 rd mag wants to "stovepipe" the last round. I tried a Colt mag and the gun ran perfectly. Good value for the price IMHO!

If you like the 1911 with traditional slide cuts, look at the SAM lineup at Wolverine Supplies....few bucks more but tighter and better made.
 
I can't comment on the older ones but my year old norc sport I love. No fibre sight on mine but I really wish it did. Now what oldrodder said out of the box the trigger is gross. If you are mechanically inclined hell if you aren't its a great learning experience. Don't think this matters if you have a "sport" or government one. Tear a new one down completely and then clean it. I'm talking all the way down not just field strip. There was a lot of loose grit in the trigger channel on mine and lots of rough edges. I took mine completely apart and cleaned the grit then polished a few parts (not touching the sear unless you have the proper tools) but I polished the trigger bow as it was rough as hell as well as the main spring as my main spring had funny coating on it that was almost like 240 grit sand paper. Between cleaning all the crap out of it and just a couple spots of polishing on parts that won't make the gun unsafe it cleaned up very nicely. To my highly tuned trigger finger trigger scale (lol). Obviously there is still room for improve on mine but I lack the tools and knowledge to complete a trained gunsmith trigger job.

For the price point of a 1911 can't beat a norc.

I got over the front slide serrations quickly. It is gunny the sport and government are the same price but honestly between the amount of metal in the "extra" parts theres not much there final cost wise. I could see a couple bucks difference but its also china so its confusing to figure out there logic sometimes.

I don't recall seeing a two toned government at all in the last year. Simple solution, but a two toned sport and a government and make your own :)

as far as i know the 2 tone ones are from a couple years back.
i havnt seen them in stores or online for at least a year.
i have 2 (the ones above) and i love them.
but no frills. id love to put some fiber optics on them.
and they are heavy like you wouldnt believe!
but after you clean them and get some after market mags they purr like kittens!
