I have a very old weaver k4 steel tube scope that was on a 303 that was passed on to me after my grandfather died in the early 70's.The gun was in my aunt'y closet for the last 30 years but now it sits in my safe.The scope is all frosted looking when you look thru it.I dont want to spend too much on it but for sentimental reasons I would like to make the package functional again just to take out shooting.Where could I take the scope to get an idea of the cost or repairing it?any ideas? thanks
 
I have to laugh at folks who think they need a $700.00 scope to have an accurate rifle. I have 4 scopes, none of which were more than $100.00 $150.00 or so. All work fine now for the last upteen years. Nice, bright, clear and used in punishing conditions of late season deer hunting. Never an issue or problem. I'm sure the higher grade scopes are made better, but I don't shoot Mannlicher rifles either. So far the deer, moose, and caribou I have shot haven't noticed what scope I was looking through. The fact is, even cheap scopes are well made these days. I cannot say the same for binos though, because I can tell a better glass from a poor POS.

The phrase "You get what you pay for" definitely applies to scopes. Good glass is a great investment, and you will never lose your money on that investment either.

Leupld Vari-X III's are selling for more used than they did brand new....say that about your $99.95 bushnell.

Cheap scopes may last for a season, a year, or ten years...what you have to realize is that it likely will crap out.......it's the "when" part that'll screw ya.

It's a real SOB to learn that your scope has shifted zero or has decided to fog at the exact moment that 250 lb 14 pointer steps out at 100....but that's EXACTLY when it will happen. You laugh at guys who buy expensive scopes? I laugh at guys who think they can buy a precision optical insturment for 99.95 at Walmart. The difference is, I laugh at them while eating fresh tenderloin.

While I'm on a rant...know what else makes me laugh? Guys who will spend big bucks on a rifle, scope, the trip......but buy cheap ammo to save 20 bucks.
