Old Winchester SRC rear sight usage?

On the old SRC`s how were you suppose to use the rear sight with the HUGE V notch in it?
1 Line up top of front sight with top of rear sight
2 Put top of front sight in Bottom of rear sight?

i`ve been told both ways

I've had a several old Winchesters with these ladder type rear sights with the huge v-notch and I've shot with them quite a bit. (1) is the correct answer. If you do (2) you have a lot less consistency as to how high or low you are holding depending on things like lighting, and it is a lot slower to sight if you want consistency. They shoot real accurate using (1) (less than 3" five-shot groups at 100 yards, and sometimes, depending upon the gun and load, less than 2" five shot groups at 100 yards.
