old winchesters

i have inherited some old winchesters from my grandfather, and was just curious on how to go about selling a couple of them and still get as much value out of them as possible. to my understanding one of them is a winchester 1876 nwmp issued rifle worth quite a bit of money. i am keeping some for sentimental but mabey not all of them.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Do some research on your guns. There is lots of information available on winchesters. If you want help from any forum, you need to post photographs with good descriptions of each weapon. If not you won't get any useful or accurate information or appraisals. Good luck with you stuff.
 
Post with pictures, see what everyone has to say. value depends on the condition and model. You could sell them on the EE? BTW a Winchester 1876 NWMP is quite rare and worth allot. see some links from the US.

i have pics but i would have to e-mail them. i am not very computer smart and there in about 21 of them. that one on the joesalter site is almost 20 didgets apart from my serial # but his is in nicer shape. my gun is pretty much down to the bare metal but the wod is resonably nice. if someone is interested i can email them detailed pics if they Pm me.

judging by those few images I think you should trust your grandfather's judgement and hang on to the collection in it's whole. Your Grandson might need the money more then you and you will definelty at some future point figure out why he chose those specific 21 rifles to hold on to after probabley 50 years of collecting.

sorry for the misundestanding, i ment 21 pics not guns. i only have about 4 winchesters, i don't believe my grandfather was a collector as much as someone that just had a couple guns. i wish he was around to question. im sure there is a story behind each one. i have spoke with lots of the family bun no one seems to know any history behind them. he has been gone for about 4-5 years now ond they have just sat around in my locker. i also have an old 303 brit and a 1860 remington rolling block and an old marlin that is broken, like i said i am keeping some. but i was just thinking some collector might appreciate it and its rarity(1976).
 
Well, the last NWMP 1876 I saw went for $10,000.00. An 1873 as you describe would also be a very collectable piece....probably in the $5,000.00 range , if it is original and in good condition. I just sold a junker 1873 for parts for $1,000.00. Don't jump at the first guy along with cash......good luck.

It's an heirloom. I'd keep it.

For the 76 is the caliber stamped on the outside bottom of the brass elevator?
Has the receiver and barrel been polished to get some of the rust off?

I assume the 38-55 is a standard sporting rifle.

no caliber markings and as for as i know it hasn't been sanded. but my cody letter said it came on the same shipment as joes

Some of the lifters did not have the caliber stamp, just wondering if yours did or not. Your nwmp carbine was shipped on 5/18/82 in order # 32602 with 182 carbines. The wood may not have been sanded but the metal has been cleaned to remove some rust. That is where the silver come from. Joes is a nice gun but about $3000 over priced.

Check out the Cody Firearms Museum online-they can tell you alot about your Winchester and for a fee provide a letter which ups the value
