This gun belonged to my grandfather and was given to me when he died. He was an avid hunter, and unfortunately I've only gotten into hunting since he passed. I'd love to be able to use this gun out in the field because of the sentimentality; however, the 12GA barrel on it has a bulge... I'm wondering if anyone can identify this gun and knows if I can buy a new barrel for it - possibly even switching to a double barrel 12GA. I know that Marocchi makes interchangeable barrels for their newer shotguns. Any chance they would fit mine?

Any info on this gun would be greatly appreciated! I've reached out to Marocchi but did not hear back...

Just had a quick look through Shotgunworld.com and believe this matches up with your gun.

This is the "American Arms RS" (rifle/shotgun) 12ga/.222 Remington combination gun made in Italy by Marocchi using many of the Finn-designed "Valmet 412" features (except mine has a double trigger) and I've also read that it was made on the same Finnish tooling as used for Valmet's or Tikka's combination guns that was eventually moved southeast to Italy. It has 26" barrels, a brass bead out front with a flip-up rear blade, a screw-in choke for the shotgun (mine is choked Full+) , and it's 43" OAL with a Monte Carlo walnut stock with what looks like impressed skip-checkering, QD swivel studs and an automatic safety.

Don't expect much from marocchi in case you are planning to contact them.
Took me a few emails before getting a simple question answered and by the sound of it they only have parts for their current models.

Good luck and let us know how it all worked out.

It will be difficult to find but it is best to look for a barrel set with a centre fire calibre that you like or comfortable with. You will not be able to find a 12 gauge o/u barrel set because the lockup and extractor/ejectors are machined differently for their designated o/u shotguns. Fix or replace the barrels or leave it as it is, either the Marocchi's are well made guns and worth holding on to. Your Granddad had good taste.

Have you reached out to Western Gun Parts by chance and do mean slim chance.
Couldnt see the bulge, but assume it was in the Shotgun Barrel.
Prolly regulated to wall hanger status, unless one finds the Unicorn barrel or a G/S checks it out and gives it a green light to shoot.

I had a Marocchi a few years back and needed parts. E mailed them on a Sunday, had a reply on Monday from a very helpful lady asking for my address as they were sending me the parts free of charge.!!! Doesn’t come better than that for service.

Bulges can usually be fixed by a competent gunsmith and it would cost much less than buying a new set of barrels and having them fitted.

I second the gunsmith recommendation. Finding a set barrels will be very hard. Theres a good gunsmith in Komoka ont that can fix your gun.

Just get the bulge fixed. Can barely even see it in the pictures.

Glad to hear it can likely be repaired! The bulge seems pretty minor, though I don't have experience with others for comparison... Would the gunsmith in Komoka be Nick Makinson? (I just did a quick google search). Does anyone know the appropriate time to use such a gun for hunting in Ontario? The regs seem to relegate it to winter hunting for rabbit/hare unless you carry a bear/deer/moose license during any one of those seasons...
