I had a couple of the older minis over the years, and most were scoped. One used the type of scope mount pictured in the thread above, the side-plate replacement job. There were a couple of companies that made them, and the one that I had worked okay but was very high, allowing practically no cheek weld. A better option is the type that replaced the rear sight and had a screw that just contacted the front of the receiver to apply some tension to the mount. It was lower and easier to shoot, and looked a bit fragile but seemed to hold up well. I don't know if any of these are still available...you might have to snoop around gunshows or the EE for a used one. I would check the Weaver website...I know they made one. S&K had one as well.
Why don't you try to find one of the forward-mounted scout type mounts? Ultimak has one, and there's a least one other one on the market. They replace the handguard and use an extended-eye-relief scope. Or just sell the gun and get a newer ranch rifle, which comes with dovetails on the receiver and Ruger rings.
