I wanted to know what you guys think of the older Remington 700 actions. Are they comparible with today's actions? Is my Remington 700 bdl in 243 [1980's] as good as todays SPS? If there is a difference, can someone explain in english the differences [actions only] please

No they are not the same, the older 1s were suseptable to FAR better QC, than the new stuff.
Physically they are the same. Just the fit and finish is now much poorer.

I have a Rem 700 in 300 Win and one in 7x57 that are both earlier versions,they are much nicer finished than the sps. I had a new sps 22-250 where the bolt seemed to grind compared to the older Rem's. My 600 Rem is nicer than the sps and it was made in the late 60's. Accuracy with the sps was about the same,sadly the finish was not. The cheaper finish was to save money for Remington, maybe they will wake up and put the customer first again.
I don't think the is any real design difference.
The older ones may have been made to slightly better tolerances, but I have seen new ones that had excellent tolerances and some that did not where accuracy of machining was concerned.... and the same with old ones but they seem a bit more consistent.
Which ever you have or obtain it is quite easy to true it up and install a quality barrel and have a rifle that will shoot really well.
