Hello guys. I just bought an old Smith & Wesson M&P pistol in .38 S&W cal.

The serial number is 834### and has a "P" next to it. It is in blue finish, smooth wood grips and marked "D broad arrow D" (dept of defence (Australia)).

The ownership calls it a M & P 1905 4th change but it seems more like a Victory pistol.

Can someone look up the date of manufacture of this old gun? (I understand there is a S & W book but no web site).
Would this be police, army or what?

There is indeed a S&W website, lots of good info there. It's very similar to my Victory model. As for ammo, Remington makes some, so does Winchester (nickle plated brass), and Starline makes brass.

My load is 2.2gr W231 under OmaProducts .38 Super 160gr RN, CCI small pistol primers. Even with those less-than-perfect sights, it's very accurate at 25 yds.
