Hello from New Zealand where we are in the grip of winter...

Am enquiring about Olivon tracker scopes - Olivon being evidently a canadian company. Wondered if they are well known there? They are fairly inexpensive but the two I've had - a 3-9 and a 4-16 - are optically very clear and seem to perform well.

Are they regarded as a good cheapie - mine seem to operate well on our rimfires.

It may be a Canadian company, but I believe they are all made offshore. Brandon Optics in Vancouver B.C. is one of the main sellersor distributors. I have tried a Tracker II on a Browning T Bolt .22 and it does work surprisingly well. I don't know how it would react with larger recoil though. I have not heard to many opinions of them, good or bad.
 
The Olivon Tracker 4-16x44AO I have is notably clear - impressive for a cheaper scope. Also mildot which makes it good for 22 shooting - saves calculation time for holdover at varying distances.

Just found some further data and it is a chinese scope sold in canada and usa. Here is website:

I note factories are complying with ISO9000/9001 manufacturing standards which is a good sign for chinese product. Interesting scope. Local gunshops here in NZ say they are popular and give very few problems. Will give the new 4-16 a good workout next week.

Good cheapie or not, I won't be buying one. After spending $$ and booking vacation to go on a hunt, the last thing I want to worry about is my "good cheapie" when I'm about to take a shot on a bull moose or a bear...

I'll spend the money on quality and have confidence in it...
 
If you read the thread correctly, you would note these are rimfire scopes used on our 22s - for bunny rabbits not grizzly bears. And they work very well for that purpose.
 
I know the company only from astronomy accessories. Those have been of good quality/value for $ (nevermind the blingy brass scopes - those are just decorations for offices on the 51st floor ;))

i forgot the other brands that this exact thing happened with, wasn't there one where it was a father/daughter operation, has any mods reviewed any of those yet, i thought they were going to send some to cgn mods to demo, i'm waiting:rolleyes:

as to olivon, i think i will wait and see what transpires here first:)

I actually live 10,000 miles away in New Zealand and haven't the slightest interest in promoting someone's website. I connected with your canadian site for information as I thought Olivon was a canadian company.

Are all canadians so suspicious, so friendly :( . Bear in mind what and how we write travels throughout the world - it is always best to be positive.

I am going to test out the 4-16x44 olivon tracker today. Will be interested first to see if zeros and holds its zero well, in optical clarity and then shifts in POI through magnification range.

Not suspicious and don't really care. Just thought it was an odd first post...

At any rate, do you fellows have any game seasons open right now? I always like reading about NZ hunts...Those red stags are a beautiful animal...

WELLLL, this is the daughter of that "operation" Ha. When I started on this site I was unaware of the rules for advertising. But Still my dad and I are the canadian sales rep's.

I have handled these optics at several gun shows here in B.C.
Have spoken directly with "chickwithagun" and her father in person about thier products. I have seen brisk sales at thier gunshow tables and never an angry customer. Thier display includes a fish tank full of water with an Olivon scope completely submerged for the duration of the 2 day gunshows i've seen them at...... the scopes come out of that water with crystal clear view and the optics appear to stand up to the claim of being fully waterproof and fog proof. For light recoil firearms, I would recommend them without hesitation for those wanting an alternative to the higher priced options out there. These scopes come with a lifetime warranty as well. I WILL be trying one of thier optics on the "scope killer" .... an M14s semi auto and once i have time to run it through it's paces with several hundred rounds, I'll post a report. These folks have been selling these optics for a few years now and are still doing brisk sales at B.C. gunshows to hunters using an array of firearms and calibers.... the fact they are still going strong after a couple years means to me that thier product is worth taking a good look at.

Mudgrip4...Don't get the wrong idea, most Canadian gun owners are very friendly and helpful, esp. towards our Kiwi cousins. We've had quite a "go round" here with the cheaper scopes and it's got some peoples 'backs up", when Chinese knockoffs are compared to their Leupolds and Nightforces. Like most sites this site has it's share of "know-it-alls", that's why i stopped giving appraisals, as some just wait for them and jump all over it. Anyhow, welcome to the site, work around the naysayers, some, like myself, like to egg people on.....I hope you will share some of your shooting/hunting experiences with us here on Gunnutz.....Just for the record, my bottom line, low end scope choice would be the Bushnell 3200 series.
