To the best of my knowledge no one is distributing or even bring in Olympic Arms AR's into Canada on a regular basis. These rifle have a poor history of performance (I have never shot one so my info is second hand). Because of this there is very little interest in this company or it's rifles and are generally avoided at retail. We will not take one in on trade or sale unless I get it for the value of the internal components. I'm sure there are a few people out there with actual hands on experience that may vary from my opinion. There are several alternatives to this brand and currently we (along with other retailers) have lots of options in stock. Phil.

As an after thought I remember one we had in the past (used) to work on that would not accept polymer mags as the mag well was too tight. If you are considering a used one I would check this with a P Mag to make sure. Good luck. Phil.

The machining on the early Olympic's was hit and miss, poor quality control that didn't catch the many out of spec tolerances. That's both uppers and lowers. I have fixed many of them over the years.

The newer ones seem to be fine, fit and finish acceptable. I have examined several and would say they're equal to most of the others now.

Not sure which province you're from but I know at least one store in Vancouver has it. Not sure if I'm allowed to say their name since they're not a sponsor on this site. PM me to get their name, I guess.

I have 2 Olympic Arms - and I love them. I have an older Olympic Arms SGW AR-15 and a newer Olympic Arms MFR AR-15. Both are tight and the finish is not too bad. The fit and finish is way better than that on my CQ-A1 AR-15. I have a mixture of factory, polymer and Asian steel mags and I have yet to have a problem. International Shooting Supplies in Surrey, BC bring in the MFR models from time to time and they are priced at $100 more than the CQ-A-1.

I also have an Olympic Arms SGW AR-15, bought it in the early 90's and would not trade it for anything. This gun shoots very accurately and has run flawless!!

I have two ARs built on Olympic lowers. One is a 10 1/4" shorty that has never had a single FTF or FTE in all the years I've had it. The other is a 24" bull barrel target gun that has shot groups as small as .25" (5 shots @ 100 yards). I can't say that these performances are because of the lowers but they certainly aren't hurt because of them. Fit & finish is as good as any of the other ARs I have including an Armalite and a Rock River.

Just adding to this. I have also owned SGW lowers and uppers over the years (like one poster said, it was pretty much the only choice back in the eighties other than Colt) and they seemed to work well. I shot competitively for years with it and it did its job well. Now I wasn't a real heavy AR user so maybe that would have changed had I used that rifle exclusively and put many more thousands of rounds through, like they do today. In those days there were HKs and FNs and M14s to play with as well.:)

Today, however there are many very good and probably better choices out there because of the explosion of AR use competitively, so if I had to do it over again I would probably save up buy one of the more popular higher end brands. Daniel Defense comes to mind.

Oly made decent rifles and pioneered a few nice changes to the platform.

True! They were the first, I believe, to make a flat top upper. They were made from A1 forgings which had the carry handle machined off and a weaver base drilled and tapped on top.

I would like to add that any Oly receivers that had no problems in the first place, or had machining errors corrected operate and last same as any other makers.
