Olympic no Show

Just wondering why Canada is a no show at the games if any one knows why? Is it lack of programs and coaching or something else. Did we even send anyone? Just asking because when I was at Hamilton there was talk about development a few years back. Kinda sucks seeing noname countries competing.

In order to win a quota spot to the olympics, shooters must first qualify at the Canadian National level (which means the shooter must be a consistent 23 out of 25 more or less) in a sanctioned National shoot. If qualified the shooter can then move onto the world cup tours and try to win a quota spot for Canada. Canadian shooters are not sponsored in any way to go to these events, its all done from the shooters own pocket and will to take time off work and travel. Even if a quote spot is won in the world cup, this only means that a Canadian shooter can go to the olympics in one of the shooting events (such as trap, skeet, air rifle, pistol). Bunker is a diffcult game, and we dont have many bunkers to practice at around the country.
 
There are a couple Olympic bunker trap setups at the Winnipeg Trap & Skeet Club, but as mentioned it is a challenging game and most guys stick with standard trap, skeet and sporting clays. Even if they enjoy the olympic Bunker Game, most don't/can't afford the costs of running all over North America to try and qualify for the olympic trials.
 
What's the main differences in Olympic and normal trap?

It's a bummer there is no Canadians. Too bad Canada wouldn't sponsor more athletes.
 
The're is now an Olympic trap bunker at Hamilton gun club. I'm not sure how accessible it is though to nonmembers.

Edit: And something to do with single/doubles events also??

I'm pretty sure someone more knowledgeable than myself will be along very soon, with the real deal.

Where coutries like the US most the their shooters are part of the US Army Markmanship Unit. There fulltime job is shooting and there isn't any out of pocket expence.

I read a profile of one of the US women skeet shooter. It said she fires 800-900 shots a day and only drills on one station at a time.
 
In 95% of sports, Canada fails to bring Olympic standard facilities to the athletes. When I was on the canadian track cycling team we were all based in LA training, no 250m olympic track in canada... Very pathetic. We have horrible support for most athletes, its pretty disgusting.

but when you consider that most pools in Ontario for example fall short by feet or inches for an Olympic size and all of the swimmers are from quebec where they have olympic pools ..........they are wasting money here
 
Montreal Anglers & Hunters L'Acadie sporting complex has bunker trap and Olympic skeet (La Roue du Roi also has Olympic Skeet). 48 shooters showed up this weekend to shoot a qualifier. An American, I think it was Mr Dakota won. Sporting & FITASC champ Shawn Stitt, won the Quebec title. Aldo Lavazzani (Beretta shooter handler) finished 7th with a borrowed DT11.

Yes, that is what he is suggesting. As someone who was heavily involved in hobbies that no one thought once about sponsoring with tax dollars, I get pretty perturbed when some people think their hobby is entitled to my money.
 
How much do you think countries like China and USA put towards there athletes?

I'm not sure about you guys but sports like these are a dying breed. Golf is another sport that is a dying breed and without participation from our government getting youth involvement the sports will slowly fade away to nothing.

I would way rather my tax dollars go to athletes then some of the other expenses our government officials spend it on. I won't get into politics without creating a whole new debate.

At our trap club I am the youngest guy there by at least 15 to 20 years and I am 39. There might be one or two guys a few years older but most guys are 55 and older. Without youth participation these sports are done in 10 years.

Yup: I see a lot of that. Years ago someone would have 5 or 6 kids and maybe 1 would take up shooting: it put the odds up of some people working towards getting into the Olympic shooting sports. Now so many people are only having a few kids and with the Lieberal idiot-ologies towards firearms as sporting tools/events/recreations the numbers are horribly low.
 
As someone already stated the US shooters are part of the USAMU .
I was talking to gentleman this weekend from Fort Worth . He stated a few of the good shooters from his club actually got recruited at the range . Their program down there is always looking for the up and comers .
