We're heading up there (Germansen landing) with an 'any bull ' Oct 10 draw...any reports on the first opening yet? We're hoping to drift the river upstream of Germansen landing, haven't been on that river before,so any input is appreciated. Also, not sure if the best route is from McKenzie in, or from Vanderhoof north through Ft St James

Hello, north thru Vanderhoof/FSJ may be the better route....thinking the residents of GL travel to FSJ more often and the road is maintained better. Also, the log trucks travel the Mac route which means more big truck traffic and sometimes leads to the road being rough..to say the least. Good luck on your hunt...

If you're running props, bring lots.............dependent on water flow.
We averaged three props per boat.
I'd go the Mackenzie route.
Them truckers are arses on the FSJ's route.
Give them lots of clearance.

What's the water level in the river like this time of year upstream of Germansen landing?(I understand there's rapids downstream, not something I want )

Come to think of it Kamlooky is right about the FSJ truckers.......road channel radio is also recommended......river is higher due to rain and melting snow (yes snow on the tops)..but changes rapidly

It has been many a moon since I have been to the Omineca River, but looking at the recreation atlas, it doesn't look like things have changed much!
Stay above Germansen Landing and I don't remember rapids on most of the upper Omineca. Cross the river on the bridge, drive west and launch your boat at the camp sight, then maybe go upstream to about as far as Discovery Creek and drift back. I imagine that is still good moose country.

They travel with bumpers filled with lights and they are on.
Don't bother flashing them of the next one behind will play targets with your mirrors.
If you see them coming, pull over quick and let them have the road.
It's been a few years, but habits don't change.

I'd go through the Fort personally When I worked at the mine that's they way I went and most I know go that route. The truckers are no worse than on any active forestry road in the province. Haven't been up there since August but I'm sure the roads decent as it usually is.

If you are already on your way this will be too late. Just drove through that country on my way home last night (arrived 0200 this morning) Snow was coming down and road conditions are not great and it has been very wet since we hit the road three weeks ago. Bring lots of warm, dry changes of clothes this is turning into a wet cold fall. Good luck on your hunt.

Roads are not bad...truckers from Mac to Omineca through to Ossilinka are a pretty good bunch....snow is working its way down the mountains..about an inch on the ground here at Ossy....the truckers are on a new sched this week..going home tomorrow and back for Friday...Monday 10th should be less travelled.....this is for the Mackenzie route not sure what is happening thru FSJ. Good luck
