Like most of you guys I expect hunting temperatures from +18C to minus 20C

On a SS rifle after taking apart and cleaning the bolt do you lightly lube before re assembly?

I have always left clean and dry.
Just thought I would ask what others do...
 
Yes...I was taught to put a small dab of white grease on the locking lugs and 'cam' surfaces of the bolt to prevent galling ..for the striker and spring a VERY light touch of synthetic oil applied sparingly with a lightly oil 'dampened' cloth

Wondering about this I called stoger Canada today with a few questions.
He said in their shop they always re assemble with a small amount of G96 on firing pin assembly.
I was considering ballistol, but since both were on hand G96 got the nod.

Perhaps so few answers indicates not many guys bother?

Here is a trick a gunsmith suggested and one I have used for many years.
get a large zip lock baggie
add bolt, soak awhile, and shake
observe any crud coming out
dry and blow out with a can of compressed air
he said any residual varsol would have some lubricating properties.
 
Too much effort. Simply disassemble the bolt and give each part a good wipe down with a clean oily cloth. Then finish with a G96 spray to the spring and firing pin. Assemble.

If it's really dirty with lots of carbon fouling, I give the bolt parts a bath in my ultrasonic cleaner, followed by a light spray of G96.
