On the Cleaning of Brass

Other than for serious long-range competition, cleaning primer pockets is more of a "feel-good" exercise than a "necessary" exercise.

I have been loading for near 50 years now, and I don't bother cleaning the pockets on hunting or plinking ammo. For 1000 yard competition, I still do.

I tumble my brass, lube [Imperial sizing wax] size, wipe dry, and load up.

Regards, Dave.

Cleaning primer pockets for me means the SS Tumbler and not much more plus some lube lightly before loading that's it

for my pistol ammo (9mm on a dillion SDB & 45acp on single stage) i decap dirty casings on a single stage press with universal decapping die then wet tumble with SS pins then i load.

for rifle ammo (223 on single stage) i decap dirty casings on single stage with universal decapping die followed by wet tumble.. then lube & resize... then i give them a quick wash in a bucket filled with water and some dawn soap & rag and swish them around (i find that having a rag in the bucket helps remove the lanolin lube) then i trim, swage and load.
