DETROIT – U.S. federal agents have seized 3,450 rounds of ammunition after they say a Canadian man tried to drive into the U.S. from Canada across the Ambassador Bridge.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection says the rounds were for a .22-calibre weapon and concealed beneath the front passenger seat of the vehicle’s floor mat.

They say a 36-year-old man entering through a trusted traveller program lane last Wednesday had told authorities he had no items to declare but that a secondary inspection turned up the ammunition.

U.S. officials say he was questioned by Homeland Security and released.

They say the man also was issued a civil penalty and removed from the NEXUS program, which allows pre-screened travellers expedited processing by U.S. and Canadian officials.

Acting Port Director David Beculheimer says the program “allows low risk, frequent border travellers benefits not available to others.”

Damn lucky that all he got was a fine and his pass pulled.
At the very least, I would have expected his car to be seized.

What they're not telling you is there was actually 10,000 rounds being smuggled. The arresting officers have .22s at home too, don't ya know. ;)

I jest, of course. Or do I?

And every-time he tries to enter the USofA he will be pulled in for Secondary Inspection and detained for a few hours.
Nucking Fidiot, but what ever floats your boat trying to save a few dollars.
Tight Groups,
Rob

People are missing the point ..he was a Canadian! .. Not saving any money! .. He was smuggling or supplying a buddy with cheap ammo, and got caught. 22lr is very hard to come by in the US .. We still pay $7 - $10 for cci Mini Mag due to supply contracts and no ammo runs .. Yanks are paying $30 for the same 100 rounds .. In March it was $60.00 for 100 rounds .. May spike again with new fears of big brother stepping in re mass shootings in the last weeks.
