I have supplied this opinion on other boards over the last two years, When I started hunting 16 years ago I took a one day course, at the end of it I was qualified to get my hunting licence, take the test for my FAC and hunt every animal in Ontario, other than turkeys which were not in my area yet. Now the course is a friday night and all day saturday and sunday, to get a gun licence you have to put in that time again and if you want to hunt one of the main game animals in the province you must ginve up another full day. And the OFAH says they want to encourage new hunters, bull$@#$% they want your money. If the hunter education course cannot teach you what you need to know about turkeys in the extra day and a half the course now is I think it is useless. The new hunter course should definately be changed to cover all hunting in the province, why not a seperate course for deer, bear, moose duck etc? I don't think anyone can argue that there are not inherent dangers in either of these other pursuits and skills needed but the hunter education course seeems to be able to cover them. In my mind it is either a pure cash grab for the OFAH who puts on the course or complete incompetence of the current hunter education course to prepare hunters.
