Once in a lifetime James River opportunity!

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but how is 1899$ for a rebuilt Garand supposed to be exciting when the current average for Garands is around 1500-1800$?

I may be missing something glaringly obvious so apologies in that case.

Regarding the barrels the James River website says "We utilize very good to excellent condition GI barrels but those desiring to shoot in the CMP Garand Match can substitute a new Criterion barrel." Your website states "...and new manufacture Criterion barrels". I take this to mean that all your Garands will have the new Criterion barrels. Is that correct? I'm keen to pick one of these up but I want to know exactly what I'm getting.

Thanks.

Just got off the phone with JR and we have confirmed these guns are all original using standard GI barrels that are guaranteed 4 or less in the throat and 2 or less at the muzzle using original armory specifications. Only things not original are the springs internally and the stocks.

Any chance you can get some with the Criterion barrels? I don't mind some refurb parts but for $2200 (with tax, etc.) I would really like a new barrel. That could be the deal breaker for me which would be unfortunate because I would really like one of these.

Thanks in advance.

We won't likely be seeing more of the re-barreled criterion versions for a while now. These guns are all original using standard GI barrels that are guaranteed a factory rating of 4 or less (out of 10) in the throat and 2 or less (of 5) at the muzzle using original armory specifications. This guarantees you that the barrels will be at less than half of their life for even the very lowest rated barrels, all others don't make the cut, even if you're looking purely for a shooter here and not a collectors rifle these barrels have a lot of life left, and if in 10 years you want to replace it with a criterion barrel that option will be there still.

Too bad. That's a deal breaker for me. I was just breaking out the credit card but back in the wallet it goes. :(
