Living in S.Ont, and hunting the farmland around here, as well as central and northern Ont., I completely understand your predicament.
I would look for a decent, used, .270 on the EE or at one of the many gunshows- no tax. Owning a rifle that you can use where you live will give you many more oppurtunities to hunt. Even if you plan to hunt where there are no calibre restrictions, there are year round oppurtunities to hunt coyotes where you live.

Buy as good a used scope as you can afford. There are used Leupolds, B+L's etc. that come available at fair prices. You'll never regret buying a quality scope. You'll likely regret buying a cheap one at some point.

A good, used, Rem. 870 with a rifled slug barrel and a red dot scope would be very useful for deer where you are. But, if your primary plan is to hunt where there are no calibre restrictions I would still start with the .270.

Good hunting!

Either .270 or .30-06 would serve you well. Compared to the magnums, the lower ammo cost will allow to shoot more and become more proficient.

The Husqvarna 1600s that Tradex has are a good buy. It would probably be a good idea to have the stock bedded to prevent cracking.

Whatever rifle you get, do not cheap out on the scope. You generally get what you pay for when it come to optics.
