I found a box of 115 SWC bullets. I don't have any real application for these, so i did some experimenting.

357Mag case, two bullets and 6.5 to 8.0 gr of Blue Dot.

The first test showed that all loads printed the two bullets about 1" apart at 12 yards.

I reloaded the cases at 8.0gr and fired some across my Chrony.

6" brl 1120 fps
4" brl 1090
3" brl 1054

The two bullets are launched at 9mm-like velocities with excellent accuracy.

Given Ganderite's sig line (the first one) he just might be aware of the dangers. This looks like a "duplex" load, a concept that isn't exactly new. It would be a hell of a defence round.

Sounds like a good way to get someone hurt...hope you are by yourself when doing this..

This has been done with guns for a long LONG time. Its been covered in various gun rags and books, the one thing common to them all is they always used a straight walled case.
 
i've done this with 2x 000 buck pellets. worked pretty good, but not as good as above. also mine where undercharged a good bit. i will have to try another time.
 
Exactly, duplex loads have been around for a while.
IIRC, gun rags of the 80s use to tout a 357 & 44spl load(don't remember the exact name) with one bullet and 2-3 additional full caliber "disks" behind it.

Not always. The Yanks actually had the M198 duplex load for the 7.62mm NATO round - two 85 gr bullets, IIRC.
 
Many many years ago, there was a Canadian cast bullet manufacturer who made bullets that looked like old style aspirin pills. IIRC 50-66 grains each. Stacked 3 to a case and shot quite well. I think I may have some squirrelled away still. Neat little concept.

To add: I believe there was only one groove, unlike Ganderite's which has 2.

Well, Kale, you need to do a bit more research before you post. This is nothing new at all. Been done for years, and Ganderite definitely knows what he is doing.

Actually, I thought his post was going to be using the 358 Winchester case. The neck is just long enough to hold two bullets.

Be careful people! If any of you try this, read a lot, read some more, get advice from a reloader with personal experience, confirm what he shows you by reading, read some more!

Reloading is all about trying new things, but safety first!


Ganderite, very impressive so far! I am going to follow this closely!
 
Many years ago, I loaded the 444 Marlin with two 240 gr Keith-type cast bullets. That was 480 gr total bullet weight. Interpolated 45/70 data, and used starting loads for the trap-door Springfield. The loads were very safe, around 1200 fps, IIRC, however accuracy was only so-so, because the barrel twist was too slow for the bullet. They would strike almost a foot apart at 100 yd.
