I got to handle one at the gunstore today and, man oh man, this is one nice gun. I kept looking at it in the display case and when I got to handle it, I was impressed with its weight and balance and it was a natural fit for my hand. The only negative was the price, it made me tuck my tail, put my head down and leave the store before the blood ran too hot and me putting it on my credit card.

that is actuly the M945 if im not mistaken, not an 1911. similar thing though.
Indeed, the grip angle should give it away. Although it looks similar to the 1911, it's actually based on a 3rd gen S&W auto.

When I approached the display case I thought it was a 1911. When I got closer I realized that it wasn't, no barrel bushing and, like capp states, the grip angle didn't seem right. This really lit the fire!! Whoa, my wanting this gun is worst than what a teenager faces going through puberty lusting after a chick that he saw in Playboy. :D

I'm not crazy about the fish-scale slide serrations but I guess that's just cosmetic.
It is a bit of a franken-gun with the 1911 frame controls and S&W upper.

How does it shoot, that's the question. Does anyone have one?

I've had a 952, the 9MM version...awesome shooter.
I have, and will keep, the Doug Koenig unit in 38Super.....
Anyone who handles/shoots it falls immediately into lust.
Can't comment on the regular 'plain jane' S&W units...but the boys in the
Performance Center (US don't ya' know) certainly got it right!

Which were 'borrowed' from the Kimber Raptor line I suspect.........

The difference in the serrations between the Raptor and this 945 are night and day. The 945 serrations remind me of art, I don't get the same feeling when I look at the serrations on the Raptor. The 945 Performance Centre gun is spendy. Happiness got it right, the store was asking 2500 for it. Seeing that it's hand fitted, performance tuned and a limited production I guess it's reasonable enough. Just a shame that it's out of my price range.

Agreed, but that is only really very minor. Other than that it's definitely impressive looking. Well Done! :beerchug:

How much was this one?
The price at dealers is anywhere between $2195 and 2495.
Yeah, it sounds like alot, but you'd pay the same, or more, for a Les Baer or
Wilson Combat.....

Personally, for the money, I'd sooner have the Wilson 1911 myself...

I believe this pistol was originally made to compete in the FBI trials for a new tactical entry pistol. It would have been the only non-1911 that fit the specifications, except it wasnt finished on time. The FBI used novak tuned hi-powers before that, and I believe that springfield armory won the overall competition, and was adopted by them.
