I am always learning new things, and indeed that is one of the reasons I have enjoyed Gun Nutz. Especially before all of the less experienced folks joined up who want to add their opinions to everything......

So I see somebody has listed a Sako rifle in the EE which is described as a "one-holer." The seller has not apparently shot the rifle, based on the description provided in that ad.

When I was a lad, somebody talking about a "one-holer" was describing an outdoor toilet with only one seat, as opposed to a "two-holer," which of course had two. Often a two-holer had a small hole for kids and a large hole for adults.

I would have thought that a person describing a firearm as a "one-holer" would be alluding to the accuracy of that firearm. But if he or she has not shot the firearm, then that hypothesis appears to be incorrect. It also seems unlikely that the firearm is to be confused with a toilet, although perhaps the suggestion is that accuracy is really not very good.

So maybe there is a new term out there of which I am unaware, and "one-holer" means something entirely different. Please add to my education here, folks.

No no no no, you've got it all wrong guys. Most any rifle is a one-holer. If you toss that rifle at a target like a spear and are lucky enough to hit said target, you're only going to get one hole. That's where the one-holer term comes from. That's why you don't have to fire a single round from the rifle.

Ain't that the truth. I was wondering why you don't post much anymore Doug. Same reason as me apparently, too many experts...

OK I see, I am beginning to understand, there are many possible meanings for a "one-holer," and any suggestion that a person would BUY that expensive toy and then shoot, say, five rounds at a hundred yard target expecting that the rounds would go into one hole, would be just so 20th century. Like really!

I bet the gun is TACTICAL too. Whatever that means this week.

Most of you are talking about one shot groups. Thats not very fair to the advertiser. I am sure the rifle is very accurate. Probably given enough shots lets say 40 or so you would end up with one hole ( 6" in diameter )

BTW I have a shotgun that will give me a one hole group as well ( at 5M)

I almost shot a one holer once with one of my CZ HMR's. I was so confused about the hole not getting noticably bigger that I threw the last shot. Probably never do it again but that target hangs proudly in my garage. I think its a combination of luck, skill and a rifle that is capable of consistancy like that.

Come on Doug, give the guy a break. It's common knowledge that anything Finnish shoots 5 shot .15" groups, especially with Core-lokts. He is just stating the obvious.
What are you selling this Christmas?

My, my, my...so much to teach, so little time. "Tactical" was last years catch phrase. This year it's "Tacti-cool.

Tsk Tsk....you probably haven't even learned to skateboard yet (or mounted aircraft landing lights, a plastic bayonet, a fake grenade launcher and a Boy Scout whistle on your 10-22)!:D

one holer

(When I was a lad, somebody talking about a "one-holer" was describing an outdoor toilet with only one seat).

Doug you have it right my man, maybe what he means is the gun can pattern a group the size of a toilet seat at 100 yards.

#6 is a "one holer" (5 shot)
unfortunately the rifle is not.... (obviously)
