One MOA SKS

An SKS was never designed to shoot MOA, but I suppose if you throw enough cash at it and work up some homeloads, you might have some better groups... or you could better spend your money on a rifle platform that is made to shoot tight groups.

An SKS is a $200 rifle, regardless of what you spend, it will still be a $200 rifle. Love them for what they are, and if its not what you love, then put your cash elsewhere.

Lol, sks are fun plinkers. Was slamming a 300 yard gong today with it... As for making it an accurate rifle, LOLOLOLOLOLOL Your trolling right ? Oh, your not ? Well... Sorry about that....

Seriously spend 500 more and get a half decent bolt gun to dump money into. At least they have a chance ! lol

I recall that the outfit in Texas that rebuilds Mini-14s and Mini-30s into precision rifles reported that one of their breathed on Mini-30s would do better than two minutes, with surplus ball. Better with commercial ammunition.
The first brand new military Chinese SKS that came through the shop, I bedded, using a similar technique to that used for m-1 and M-14 rifles. It started grouping very nicely. ie groups, not patterns.
SKS sights are coarse, with a short radius. Forget about them.
Drill and tap the receiver for a solid side mount. This will allow a scope to be installed with correct eye relief.
The triggers can be improved.
Remove the bayonet.

I would not be surprised if bedding, a trigger job, and decent scope setup would not result in a rifle that would shoot under two minutes with consistent ammunition.

If, say, a take off target rifle barrel were retrofitted, I bet groups would start getting closer to the minute.

Apart from the labour, the project would not be particularly expensive.

So if I read it right, 5 rounds were shot at 100 yards and they were within 1 inch of each other, that is a 1 MOA, if they were within 2 inches of each other that is a 2 MOA, is that right

Minute Of Angle. In basic terms a 1 moa group at 100yds is under 1 inch. 1 moa at 200yds is 2 inch etc.

I think it´s possible.... I have shot 5rd 2" groups at 100yards with my Chinese-D and Romanian surplus ammo. Biggest thing is the ammo the scope mount and the trigger. Have a wartac rail that helps. To improve I would have to get a trigger job and some hand loads.

Further out I have done 4inch groups at 250yards, but I think thats due to trigger and my skill level. I really expected much worse when I sat down to put it on paper so like I said, maybe it´s possible.

doesn't red jacket make one?????

if not I bet they wish they had of........

they shoot MOA out of the box at 10 feet, past that its a spray and pray type of platform

The soviets designed them to be MOA rifles, Minute Of American! It would be cool to have an accurate sks just to see the reaction of the staunch bolt guys at the range!

well, at the point of getting lol'ed out of here, I have one that comes prity dam close. bone stock. I think ive had I duno how many through my hands, case lots. I have allways kept one maybe 2 out of ea case. this winter I picked a nice looking 54 dated one to shoot coyotes with. never put it on paper just some barnal NC and off I went first day got 3. seemed like wow cant miss. so put it on paper at 50 yards. right at an inch. so that's 2 moa probably the best shooting sks ive ever shot and I have done nothing to it but clean the cosmo out of it

I can't remember where I read it but from what I remember the Russians tweeked the 762x39 round into a tack driver . they might have changed the bullet . I think it was called the 220 or something like that by the russians. and yes I have heard of the 220 swift. and Mr Robertson was right the Datsun 510 was an excellent car .

we have a lot of junk to drive nowadays . disposable junk . it's not like it used to be . they used to built cars to last . and last.

You will not get moa but a good one is nothing to scoff at. At last summers battle rifle shoot in Calgary, an SKS beat out a couple of AR platforms. And to me, that's good enough.
