Looking for my first .22.

For me, and for my kids to learn on.

Looking at the Ruger 10/22 Synthetic Carbine and the Ruder 10/22 Target Tactical.

With the apparent differences like stock, sights, non-sights, does one a definite choice over the other?

I will be getting the SR-22 at some point, if that negates a choice.

Thanks.

I have the Target Tactical and it is much nicer than your run of the mill 10/22, and pretty damn accurate as well. Cheaper than building your own, and definitely a quality rig. With the stock, heavy barrel, bipod, and rail, it is a great option for bench shooting, although a little heavy to lug through the bush.

I would recommend it to anyone! You won't be disappointed.

Ill go for the Tactical Target then (SR22 in a few months).

I guess the Carbine or something similar would be a quality purchase than at some point from the EE.

How big are your kids? The heavy barreled rifles may be a bit on the heavy side for them.

Also, teaching kids to use iron sights isn't bad either.

I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you get!

Iron Sights is the issue. Thats what I want the kiddies to use and learn.

I find too many people jump right into the use of red dots at the range, and fail to learn the basics.

Mind you, the Pink Tapco stock for my Daughter is attractive.

I just got back from shooting my synthetic/stainless 10/22 with iron sights. It's fairly easy to get it to shoot where you aim. My friend owns a wood carbine 10/22 and there is a noticeable weight difference. I will be putting a scope on it in the near future for a little more fun factor.

guess it all depends on what you want it for-shooting targets of a bench,or a ''walking rifle''for casual plinking or small game hunting.I'm thinking the wood stocked carbine with fiber optic sights might be ideal for the latter

target tacical is what i got, i threw anice red dot on it and it cuts the center of a target at 50 yards, Its one of my fav girls in my safe.

That sounds like a nice set up.

Ive decided on all three.

Cost is not that bad and the SR-22 is my present to myself.

What about a stainless laminate one for her?

I prefer of the deluxe sporter model, comes with sling attach points and a walnut stock for just a few dollars more than the standard beechwood or synthetic.. also agree with Jahred, the target model might be a little heavy for the little ones..

I have the target tactical and it is a really nice little rifle. I put a VQ carbon fiber barrel on it as soon as I got it so I can't say how accurate the stock barrel is. The trigger is quite a bit nicer than the regular 10/22 also.
