Hi all,

I have a question that perhaps can't be answered ... but here's my attempt to try and streamline my reloading powders: Is it possible to find ONE powder for the following three calibers: .243, .270, .308?

Bullet weights would be: 75-85 grain for the .243 / 150 grain for the .308 / and 130 grain for the .270.

In the past I've had numerous powders on the bench, but am trying to eliminate it down to one ... hence why I am checking in with the experts.

I currently have W760 on hand, and just finished up my last bit of my IMR 4046, H4831, H4895, and IMR 3031.

So ... which powder would you suggest as the best one for the above calibers/bullet weights?

I am not into target shooting and most of my rifles have shot different powders well. My reloads are for hunting/plinking only.

Thanks everyone!

Hi all

Ok. Thanks for weighing in here everyone!

So far it seems that the opinions lean towards Varget as the #1 choice, then 4064 & H4895 tied at #2.

I’ve never used Varget before. I’ll have to check it out.

Any other thoughts?

RL 17. I bought 8 lbs when wholesale was going under for 20$ apiece
Getting great results in my .243 from 55gr to 95 gr, and pretty good results in the 270 as well. Should work fine for the 308 too I would imagine.

H-414
Its the same as W 760. And you say you have it on hand; try it, use it up & see if it fits your needs.
For what you're using it for, temp sensitive won't be a factor.

Prior to Varget I used a lot of IMR 4350 in 243 and 270 with excellent results. I am still experimenting with Varget and in 223 and 243 it is one of the best I've used.
